To date, forty (40) young women in Côte d'Ivoire have benefited from significant financial support to attend school as a result of the generosity of a number of Ann Arbor area residents who have attended or supported the Abidjan Scholarship fundraisers sponsored by the Institute for Education of Women in Africa and the Diaspora. Last year's fundraiser, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in October, was spectacular.  Like the previous year, there was a fashion show with dinner; and entertainment provided by the dynamic Like Water Drum Works, poetry readings by local poet & storyteller Debby Mitchell, performances by the Psalm Sacred Hands girl ministry from the Second Baptist Church of Ypsilanti.  New last year was a dance featuring local DJ Kaba following dinner who spun great West & Central contemporary African music. See Fall 2002 newsletter for more information and great pictures.
